Telluride First-Time Visitor Checklist
A first Telluride trip is an order of checks, not a ranking of towns. Telluride vacation rentals on BnB Search are a free directory of ski houses, condos, and chalets in Telluride, Mountain Village, and Ophir. Shortlist on the map, then book on the property site. The facts for renters page covers altitude and visitor notes. This page is the first-trip checklist. It does not replace that page, things to do, where to eat, or Telluride vs Aspen and Vail.
Quick answer
Filter the hub badge, then read the pin. The live directory areas are Telluride, Mountain Village, and Ophir. Condo rentals and rentals with a hot tub are amenity filter pages, not towns. The Town of Mountain Village gondola page (read October 26, 2026) says the gondola is free, lists summer dates May 21, 2026 through October 25, 2026, and winter dates November 20, 2026 through April 4, 2027, with hours 6:30 a.m. to midnight. Mountain Village and Telluride are separate towns joined by that gondola. We do not rank a base.
Three labels, in the order you click them
- Decide whether the pin’s badge is Telluride, Mountain Village, or Ophir. If it is not, you are looking at a name that is not a button.
- Do not treat the badge list as a town writeup. Read the pin for the address and the map location.
- A hub label is not a promise of gondola walking distance or ski-in access. Check the listing and the map before you deposit.
- If you already know the manager or lodge, leave the town filter and open the companies guide or the directory lodging list below.
Telluride, Mountain Village, and Ophir
- Telluride is both the hub name and a town filter. The Town of Mountain Village visitor information page lists Telluride’s elevation as 8,750 feet.
- Mountain Village is its own filter and a separate home-rule municipality (incorporated 1995 on that page), listed at 9,545 feet. It is not the Telluride town badge.
- Ophir is its own filter. Existing planning posts do not give Ophir a long writeup on this checklist. Read the pin. Do not treat it as Telluride or Mountain Village.
Condo rentals and rentals with a hot tub are stay-type filters on this hub, not extra towns.
Free gondola (Town of Mountain Village)
- The gondola page calls it the first and only free public transportation of its kind in the United States and says it is free to commuters and sightseers.
- Stations listed: Telluride Station, San Sophia Station, Mountain Village Center Station, and Market Plaza Station.
- Operating dates on that page: summer May 21, 2026–October 25, 2026; winter November 20, 2026–April 4, 2027. Hours: 6:30 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week (extended hours may apply for events).
- The page says the ride from the Town of Telluride to Mountain Village takes about 12 minutes, and Mountain Village Center to Market Plaza about 3 minutes.
- When the gondola is closed, the same page says the San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation provides free bus service between Mountain Village and Telluride. The fall maintenance event page says buses run during the fall closure. Confirm current status on the town pages before you rely on a cabin connection.
What to confirm before you pay
- Which hub badge matches the pin: Telluride, Mountain Village, or Ophir.
- Whether your dates fall inside gondola summer or winter operating windows, or a maintenance closure with bus substitution.
- Altitude and packing: Mountain Village 9,545 feet and Telluride 8,750 feet on the town visitor page — not a medical guide.
- Ski-in claims and hot-tub filters on the listing, not on the town badge.
- Airport and drive: see Telluride airports and getting there.
Companies are not towns
A company or lodge pin is not the same as a town filter. Compare managers only after you know which badge matches the stay.
How this differs from the other Telluride pages
Facts for renters go deeper on visitor and altitude notes. Things to do and restaurants are separate sourced lists. Family ski houses and the Aspen/Vail and Park City comparisons help once you know the filter. This page is only the first-trip order of checks.
If a feature is a must-have, build your shortlist from these Telluride pages; each lists only rentals whose own listing title or website mentions that feature: Telluride rentals with a hot tub (9), Telluride condo rentals (9).
FAQ
Which Telluride area should I pick?
We do not publish an area ranking. Use Telluride, Mountain Village, or Ophir to match the pin, then read the listing.
Is Mountain Village the same filter as Telluride?
No. Both are hub buttons. The Town of Mountain Village visitor page states they are two separate towns with their own governments.
Is the gondola free?
Yes, according to the Town of Mountain Village gondola page. Confirm hours and any temporary weather closures on that page.
Are condo rentals a town?
No. Condo rentals and rentals with a hot tub are amenity filters on this hub.
Does BnB Search book the stay?
No. Compare on the hub, then finish on the site linked from the listing.
