Asheville Airport (AVL) and Getting to Your NC Mountains Rental
Our North Carolina Mountains hub covers cabins spread across several Western North Carolina towns and counties, not one town. This guide covers Asheville Regional Airport (AVL), using its flights and airlines FAQ, nonstop destinations page, rental cars page and ground transportation page, plus the National Park Service Blue Ridge Parkway road status page. All were checked on October 30, 2026. Routes change and some are seasonal, so confirm on the airline’s site before you book.
Quick answer
AVL lists five airlines and says it has 26 nonstop destinations. Rental car companies are next to the terminal, and the airport also lists taxis, flat-rate car services and limousines, ride-app pickup, two public transit routes and hotel shuttles. The airport does not give drive times to any of our NC Mountains area tags, so plan that leg with your map app. If your route uses the Blue Ridge Parkway, check the NPS road status page first. BnB Search is a rental directory, so nothing here is ranked or rated.
Airlines and routes
Allegiant, American, Delta, Sun Country and United, according to the airport’s FAQ. Its nonstop destinations page says “26 nonstop destinations” and marks some routes as seasonal or less than daily, so check the day you want to fly. On October 30, 2026 the airport’s site showed a travel alert asking passengers to arrive two hours before their flight’s scheduled boarding time.
Rental cars
The airport says its rental car providers are “located right next to the terminal.” It lists Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Alamo, and Thrifty and Dollar, plus Turo as a peer-to-peer option.
Other ways to leave the airport
- Taxis and ride apps: the airport lists taxis and ride-app pickup, and notes a new pickup location; see its arriving passenger map.
- Car services and limousines: flat rates based on destination, per the airport.
- Public transit: Asheville ART’s South 3 route to downtown Asheville, and Apple Country Transit to Hendersonville. The airport does not describe either as serving the towns and counties our NC Mountains listings are tagged with.
- Hotel shuttles: the airport says most are free.
Blue Ridge Parkway road status
The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long, according to the National Park Service. Its road status page lists each section by milepost and says weather, construction, maintenance and emergencies can close sections. It is updated daily and can change after it is posted.
- In the update dated 7:30 a.m. on October 29, 2026, the section from NC Highway 80 to Mount Mitchell State Park (mileposts 344.2 to 355.3) was listed as closed for Hurricane Helene damage, with recreation of any kind prohibited.
- The same update listed the Linville Falls Campground and Picnic Area as closed for a Helene-related closure, hiking as prohibited at Crabtree Falls, and short single-lane closures on several other North Carolina sections.
- The page places the Parkway’s Park Headquarters and Visitor Center at milepost 384.1, between Highway 70 (Tunnel Road) and Highway 74 (I-40 Exit 53A).
The NPS home page for the Parkway also links a Hurricane Helene storm impacts and recovery page. Check both for your travel day, especially if your map app routes you onto the Parkway.
Tips
- Airport and Parkway details were checked on October 30, 2026. Check them again the week you travel.
- Open the map pin on each listing. Our area tags include Black Mountain, Lake Lure, Boone and several counties, such as Buncombe, Madison, Yancey and McDowell. A county can be a long drive from end to end.
- Plan on a rental car or a booked car service; the transit routes the airport lists are not described as going to our listing areas.
- Ask your host about the driveway, the road grade and winter access before you book.
