The NC Mountains hub is not one town. A county tag can cover a long drive, and several parks sit at high elevation where weather and storm repairs close roads and trails. As of October 25, 2026, our things-to-do guide noted Helene closures still in place on some trails and Parkway sections. Check the agency pages for your dates. If you want a lake week instead, the separate Lake Lure hub is larger.
