Saugatuck Vacation Rental Tips
The City of Saugatuck licenses short-term rentals and spells out rules that reach guests directly: overnight and visitor limits, quiet hours, pets, trash and fireworks. Use Saugatuck rentals to shortlist, then book on the property site. This page does not replace the first-time checklist.
Quick answer
Count overnight guests and daytime visitors separately, and keep it quiet from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. City of Saugatuck Code § 99.57 (read October 30, 2026) caps overnight occupancy at two per bedroom plus two per finished floor, up to 12, as set by the fire district. Visitors can bring the total to 1.5 times that number, but only from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. We do not rank managers or invent fees.
City of Saugatuck rules that affect guests
From City Code § 99.57, the city short-term rental page and the Good Neighbor Guide:
- Overnight occupancy. Two per bedroom, plus two per finished floor if there is sleeping space, never more than 12. The Saugatuck Township Fire District sets each home’s number after inspection.
- Visitors. Up to 1.5 times the overnight limit, and only between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
- Quiet hours. 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., per the Good Neighbor Guide. Guests and their visitors can be cited under the city noise ordinance.
- Pets. Secured on the property or on a leash at all times.
- Trash. All waste goes in the garbage cans or recycling bins. Waste left outside them is a violation.
- Fireworks. Owners must prohibit fireworks for guests and visitors.
- Parking. The guide asks guests to use off-street parking when they can and not to block sidewalks, mailboxes or driveways.
- Posted inside. A 24-hour contact, the overnight limit, the noise ordinance and the Good Neighbor Guide.
Every ad must show the city license number. These rules cover the City of Saugatuck. Listings in Douglas, Fennville or Saugatuck Township are outside the city, so read the pin and the booking site.

What to confirm before you pay
- Overnight headcount against the posted limit, and how many daytime visitors you expect.
- Off-street parking for every car.
- The pet policy, if you are bringing a dog.
- Weather: Saugatuck weather by month. Winter: Saugatuck winter packing.
If one feature decides the trip, start with this Saugatuck and Douglas page, which lists only rentals whose own listing title or website mentions that feature: Saugatuck and Douglas rentals with a hot tub (11). Confirm the feature with the owner or manager in writing before you pay.
