Door County Vacation Rental Tips
On top of the state and Door County Tourism Zone permits, each Door County village or town can add its own short-term rental rules. In the Village of Egg Harbor, the code spells out quiet hours, firewood, pet and fireworks rules that guests have to follow. Use Door County rentals to shortlist, then book on the property site. This page does not replace the first-time checklist, area facts for renters, or the neighborhood guide.
Quick answer
Read the posted property rules when you arrive, and buy firewood in Door County. Egg Harbor Code Chapter 118 (amended February 12, 2026; read October 30, 2026) sets quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. It bans fireworks and firewood brought in from outside the county, and it requires pets to be leashed outdoors. We do not rank managers or invent fees.
Village of Egg Harbor rules that affect guests
From Egg Harbor Code of Ordinances Chapter 118, Short-Term Residential Dwellings:
- Quiet hours. 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
- Firewood. Renters and their guests may not bring firewood that was not harvested in Door County, a rule meant to stop the spread of invasive species.
- Fireworks. Strictly prohibited, along with loud noise, dogs at large and trespassing on neighboring property.
- Pets. Pets must be leashed outside. A tethered pet must stay at least 10 feet inside the lot line, and owners must keep pet noise down.
- Sleeping space. Guests sleep only in approved living areas. No RVs, campers or tents for extra guests, and occupancy follows the state lodging limits.
- Outdoor events. An outdoor event during a rental may last no more than 12 hours, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. It may not draw more cars than the approved guest parking.
- Trash. Bins go to the street no earlier than noon the day before pickup and come back by noon the day after.
- Posted rules. The property rules are posted inside the rental and on the booking platforms. They cover parking spaces, trash, burn rules and burn bans, tornado safety, and where the alarms and extinguishers are.
Other Door County villages and towns, and the City of Sturgeon Bay, set their own rules. Read the pin and the booking site.

- Book directly on the property or manager site linked from the listing.
What to confirm before you pay
- Group size against the listed maximum occupancy.
- How many cars the off-street parking holds.
- The pet policy, if you are bringing a dog.
- Airport and drive: Door County airport and getting there.
- Winter packing: Door County winter packing.
If one feature decides the trip, start with these Door County pages; each lists only rentals whose own listing title or website mentions that feature: Door County cabin rentals (10), Waterfront rentals in Door County (9). Confirm the feature with the owner or manager in writing before you pay.
