WinterLights at the Elizabethan Gardens (Manteo)

From the Elizabethan Gardens’ WinterLights page and hours page:

2026 nights: November 20, 21, 25, 27 and 28; December 2–5, 9–12, 16–19, 21–23 and 26–29.
Hours: 6–9 p.m. The gardens do not open in the daytime from November 20 to December 29, and they are closed on December 24 and 25.
Tickets: $22 for adults (13 and older), $14 for ages 3–12, free for 2 and under, and $6 for a well-behaved dog. Tickets are sold online and at the door. They are non-refundable unless the gardens cancel, including for forecast winds over 35 mph.
Santa: visits are listed from 6 to 8 p.m. on every WinterLights night, barring cancellations.

Manteo Christmas Parade

The Town of Manteo’s Meet Me in Manteo parade page lists the parade for Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. It starts at Manteo High School, winds through downtown and ends past the College of the Albemarle campus. If you are driving through Manteo that morning, allow extra time.

Wright Brothers Day, December 17

The celebration: the First Flight Society’s Wright Brothers Day page lists its event at Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills on Thursday, December 17, 2026, the 123rd anniversary of the first flight. The page gives two different times (9 a.m.–5 p.m. in the text and 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on the event card) and says admission is free. Check the page again before you go.
Park hours: the National Park Service hours page says the memorial is open daily, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and closed only on Christmas Day.
Fees on other days: per the fees page, entrance is $10 per person for ages 16 and up, paid at the parking-lot machines (card only) or in advance on Recreation.gov.

Getting to Hatteras Island

NCDOT’s October 29, 2026 release said N.C. 12 would reopen at the Pea Island Visitor Center at 4 p.m. that day as a one-lane detour, with traffic taking turns under a signal or a flagger, and that Dare County would let visitors return to Hatteras Island. NCDOT said sandbag work would take a few weeks before it paves the second lane. If your rental is south of the Marc Basnight Bridge, check NCDOT before you drive.
