Lake of the Ozarks Vacation Rental Tips
Most Lake of the Ozarks listings on BnB Search (293 of 334) are tagged Osage Beach; 25 are in Lake Ozark. The City of Osage Beach answers short-term rental questions in its official FAQ, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol sets the boater ID rule for the whole lake. Use Lake of the Ozarks rentals to shortlist, then book on the property site. This page does not replace the first-time checklist.
Quick answer
If you plan to drive a boat, check your birth date first. Missouri requires anyone born after January 1, 1984 who operates a vessel on the state’s lakes to carry a boating safety identification card on board. In Osage Beach, the City says it has no specific short-term rental rules, except that R-3 multifamily zones require a 30-day minimum stay. Fireworks are banned in city limits unless the City issues a permit. Rules were read October 30, 2026. We do not rank managers or invent fees.
Osage Beach rules that affect guests
From the City of Osage Beach FAQ on short-term rentals and the City’s general FAQ:
- Few rental-specific rules. The City defines a short-term rental as a stay of under 30 consecutive days. It says it does not have specific regulations that restrict or prohibit short-term rentals in its residential zones, or in commercial zones where condominiums are allowed.
- 30-day minimum in R-3 zones. The exception is the R-3 multifamily zones, which require a 30-day minimum stay. If a condo or apartment is offered for a weekend, ask the host how it meets the City’s rules.
- Fireworks. Displaying, selling, setting off or making fireworks is prohibited within Osage Beach city limits unless the City issues a permit. Applications go in at least seven days ahead, and a State Fire Marshal or Osage Beach Fire Protection District permit comes first.
- Burn permits. The Osage Beach Fire Protection District issues burn permits in the city.
Taxes on an Osage Beach stay
Osage Beach spans two counties, and the City lists different rates for each. Sales tax on rental charges and services such as cleaning is 7.475% in the Camden County part of the city and 7.725% in the Miller County part. Lodging tax is 3.0% in Camden County and 5.0% in Miller County. Compare totals on the booking site, not just the nightly rate.
Boating: the Missouri boater ID card
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol Division quotes Section 306.127: since January 1, 2005, everyone born after January 1, 1984 who operates a vessel on Missouri’s lakes must have a boating safety identification card on the vessel. If a rental includes a boat or you plan to rent one, check this before the trip. The Water Patrol lists boater safety classes on the same page.
Lake Ozark and the rest of the lake
The rules above are the City of Osage Beach’s and apply only inside its city limits. Homes in Lake Ozark, other towns or unincorporated county areas around the lake are outside them, so read the map pin and ask the host which city or county the home is in.

If one feature decides the trip, start with these Lake of the Ozarks pages; each lists only rentals whose own listing title or website mentions that feature: Lake of the Ozarks rentals with a hot tub (8), Lakefront rentals in Lake of the Ozarks (19), Lake of the Ozarks condo rentals (8). Confirm the feature with the owner or manager in writing before you pay.
